FUNDING
Supporting projects and talents

The Pôle Image Magelis pursues an ambitious programme of creation-related funding for the image industry, through the management of the cinema and audiovisual support fund from the Charente Department, granting direct incentives to associations and supporting authors, companies and schools.

Cinema and audiovisual funding

In order to promote and support production development on the territory in the animation, fiction, documentary and new media industries, the Charente Department signed a convention with the National Cinema and Animated Image Center and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region.

Image association incentives

Diverse, committed and always motivated: associations from the Image industry – collectives of comics authors and drawers, animation, shooting, video game, digital image – are guaranteed to be listened to and supported by the Pôle Image Magelis’ teams throughout their journeys.

The Pôle Image can grant specific funding following the presentation of an application and of a review from an experts’ committee (creating an association, investing in equipment, project-specific help…).

All the funds for the Image industry’s associations are sanctioned by a signed convetion between the association and the Magelis Mixed Syndicate.

The Pôle Image Magelis also offers:

  • Dedicated premises for associations and collectives depending on their needs (meeting room, projection room…)

The Pôle Image Magelis has recently renovated a building entirely dedicated to authors and associations from the image industry. 600 square meters of workspace distributed on 5 levels make this structure a place of creation and exchange.

  • A specific support program for trade shows and events: part-funding of premium spaces on national and international fairs booths (Fibd, Quai des Bulles…).

Depending on the requests and needs, the Pôle Image can be present on a specific event and thus offer associations and collectives preferential prices and the added benefit coming from Magelis’ visibility.

Support to authors

Founded thanks to a Pôle Image Magelis’ initiative and now attached to the “Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l’Image”, the “Maison des Auteurs” offers its support to creators from the comics, multimedia and animation cinema industries.

Located on the fortifications of Angoulême’s old town, the “Maison des Auteurs” welcomes artists from around the world. It offers creation-enhancing working conditions, has a technical and documentation resource center and regularly organizes exhibitions.

Office spaces and equipments – provided for renewable periods of time ranging from a few months to two years – are made available for creative people all around the world to give them the opportunity to settle down and to put their projects in words and in pictures.

A residence bursary (funding) system (attributed by the “Centre National du Livre”) is also offered to authors outside of the region and willing to continue their work in Angoulême.

Each year, the “Fondation Beaumarchais” offers a writing bursary (funding) as a part of a short or feature animation film project.

Because creation would be nothing without respect to those who create, the “Maison des Auteurs” also offers legal information sessions in order to contribute to the protection of the author status and to intellectual property protection. Every 2 months, lawyers come free of charge to provide information about authors rights, the social status of artists and answer legal questions related to creation.

Since its creation, the “Maison des Auteurs” has welcomed more than a hundred authors in residence and around fifty local authors who benefited from the legal, administrative and logistics services provided.

As part of its creation incentive programme and under certain conditions, authors can benefit from financial support that can go up to €4,000 for script writing.

Support to local schools

The Campus de l’Image, supported by Pôle Image Magelis, gathers the 12 institutions offering one or several training programmes known to professionals as delivering the necessary skills for the image industry’s development.

It aims at strengthening relations between schools and businesses, at facilitating students and young graduates integration professional integration, at stimulating the cross-media platform between schools of different industries and at anticipating the evolution of jobs from the image sector.

Diversity and quality of teachings made Angoulême and the Campus de l’Image one of the major hubs for image industry training in Europe.

In order to welcome or support schools in creating new training programmes, the Pôle Image Magelis has the capacity to support – in a variety of ways – schools which would like to join the Campus de l’Image and which would like to offer training with the potential to meet the demands of local businesses from the image industry.
The constant monitoring performed by the schools must be supported actively by the Pôle and, thus, helps to create new training programmes in ideal conditions.

The Pôle Image Magelis also offers:

  • Dedicated premises for the schools depending on their needs (meeting room, projection room…)
  • A specific support program for trade shows and events: part-funding of premium spaces on national and international fairs booths (Start, FOFE, MIFA…)
  • Depending on the requests and needs, the Pôle Image can be present on a specific event and thus offer schools preferential prices and the added benefit coming from Magelis’ visibility.
